The UCLA Extension speaking engagement came and went, and I am just now writing about it. I’d like to thank Erik Deutsch for inviting me to speak about community management in his UCLA X425 class “Social Media Best Practices for Communications Professionals.” My co-speaker was none other than Dan Portnoy – the man, the myth, the expert. If you’re not following Dan, you’d best change that now.
Erik’s easy-going manner and set-up for the class made for a very comfortable environment to just talk about engagement, promotions, client case studies, and measurements. The students ranged from PR pros to neighborhood council volunteers to small business folks. I come with a nonprofit background, and I learned a lot from Dan and his experiences with nonprofit social media management. If you run a nonprofit, you might want to take a meeting with Dan about social media engagement for nonprofits.
Big thank yous go out to Erik, the students, and Dan for making that evening educational, enjoyable and interactive. Looking forward to continuing to connect with you all!
