Here’s another tip when you send a cover letter and resume: Do not add fluff. Do not oversell.
On the flipside, do not jot down your past employer and job title and forget to add what exactly you did at said job.
We received a few resumes with bullet points and no explanation or detail of each job. They’re literally a job title history without job descriptions. What. the. frick? Don’t you want to show off your skills and experiences? We’re looking for something in your resume and cover letter that shows you want to be here, that you want to work with us.
#1 To Do – If a potential employer asks for a cover letter, please send one. It tells us you’ve paid attention to the job description and what we want from you. If you can’t follow instructions, how can we trust you to do your job? Take a moment to customize it and oh, you know, do some research. We want to know that you’ve taken some initiative in looking to see what we do and who we do it for.
